Candi Dasa Beach

Candidasa Beach is a marine tourism object that is different from the most popular beaches in southern Bali, such as Nusa Dua, Jimbaran and Kuta Beach. Candidasa Beach is located in the eastern part of Bali, where it is visited every year by tourists, both domestic and foreign. It may take around 1.5 hours if you start the journey from Ngurah Rai International Airport. Even though it takes a long journey, Candidasa Beach never disappoints tourists with the charm of the beach which is so sad and calming.

Formerly Candi Dasa was a fishing village founded in the 12th century. Before being assigned the name Candi Dasa, this area was known as Kehen Bay and Cilidasa. Until the 1970s, this area began to become a tourist destination, where there are areas for snorkeling and diving and easily accessible.

The main street of Candidasa runs parallel to the coastline, you can easily find lodging places here. Along the way the area is also lined with great places to eat and drink or some of the popular bars featuring live bands every night.

Things To Know Before Visit Candi Dasa Beach

Most sources say a fishing village was founded on the site in the 12th century and before the adoption of the modern name Candi Dasa, this place was known as Teluk Kehen (“Bay of Fire”) and Cilidasa. There is a temple near the lagoon, with a statue of the goddess of fertility Hariti surrounded by a group of children, and Cilidasa is translated from Balinese as “ten children”. Many Balinese who want to have children go on pilgrimage to this place. Its modern name is thought to be a derivation of this older name. The settlement started to become a tourist destination in the 1970s, as there are good snorkelling and diving areas in the area and the town provides easy access to other destinations in eastern Bali.

There are interesting spots to dive into the underwater world, which are located around Gili Tekopong, Gili Mimpang and Biaha Islands. All three are located 200 meters from the lip of Candidasa Beach, and only 100 meters from each other. Candidasa Beach also provides local guides or guides, in order to create a safe and comfortable vacation.

Candidasa Beach is also suitable for enjoying the sunset, typical for the panorama of the sun disappearing behind the reddish hills. But to see the sunrise, you have to walk towards Tanjung Iri on the east coast.

Another uniqueness of Candidasa Beach is that there is an artificial lake right on the beach or in the middle of a beach area called Lotus Lagoon. Enjoying the beauty of this artificial lake will be more perfect at dusk, where the setting sun is present above the sky of Candi Dasa Village.
